Gild Privacy Policy
Gild LLC ("Gild," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Gild mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the App.
By using Gild, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account information: email address and authentication credentials (managed via Firebase Authentication).
- Card information you enter manually: card nicknames, issuer, reward category selections, and similar details you choose to add to your Wallet. We do not collect full card numbers, CVV codes, or card PINs through manual entry.
- Goals and preferences: any savings goals, trip-planning details, or preferences you create within the App.
- Communications: messages you send to Secretariat (our AI concierge feature) or to our support team.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Location data: With your permission, Gild collects precise location data (via Core Location) to power Quick Pay — identifying nearby merchants so we can recommend the best card for a purchase. Location is used transiently to query nearby places and is not stored as raw coordinates; we retain only the resulting merchant/category recommendation, not your location history.
- Device and usage information: device type, OS version, app version, and crash/diagnostic data, used to maintain and improve the App.
1.3 Information From Linked Financial Accounts (Gild One Subscribers Only)
If you subscribe to Gild One and choose to link a bank or credit card account, we use Plaid Inc. to facilitate that connection. Plaid may collect information in accordance with the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. Gild receives, through Plaid:
- Account and transaction metadata necessary to calculate your rewards points and progress toward your goals.
- We do not receive or store your bank login credentials — those are handled directly between you and Plaid/your financial institution.
During the current beta period, financial-account linking operates in a sandbox/development environment using test credentials only; no real financial institution data is transmitted.
1.4 Information Processed by Secretariat (AI Concierge)
When you use Secretariat, we send the following to Google's Vertex AI (Gemini) to generate a response:
- Your chat messages (most recent messages in the conversation).
- A summary of your card/reward data, active goals, and recent Quick Pay activity, so Secretariat can give relevant answers.
- We do not send your raw financial transactions, Plaid access tokens, or full account numbers to the AI model.
Conversation history is stored in our database (Firestore) so you can continue a conversation across sessions. Data sent to Vertex AI is processed under Google Cloud's enterprise data-handling terms; it is not used to train Google's foundation models.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate core features (Wallet, Quick Pay, Secretariat, Goals).
- Calculate reward-earning recommendations based on your location and card data.
- Maintain your account and process subscription billing (via Apple's StoreKit — see Section 5).
- Respond to support requests.
- Maintain the security and integrity of the App.
- Improve and develop new features.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. How We Share Your Information
We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: Firebase/Google Cloud Platform (hosting, authentication, database), Plaid (financial account linking, Gild One subscribers only), Google Vertex AI (Secretariat processing), and Apple (StoreKit billing, push notifications).
- Legal requirements: if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Gild, our users, or others.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to standard confidentiality protections.
We do not share your information with third parties for their own advertising or marketing purposes.
4. Data Retention and Security
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App's features. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 8).
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your data, including encrypted storage, access-controlled cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud Secret Manager for credentials), and database security rules that restrict each user's data to that user alone. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Payments
Gild One subscriptions are billed through Apple's App Store (StoreKit). We do not receive or store your payment card details — all payment processing is handled by Apple in accordance with Apple's own privacy practices.
6. Location Services
Gild requests:
- "When In Use" location access to identify nearby merchants for Quick Pay recommendations while you're actively using the App.
- "Always" location access (optional) to enable background preparation of Quick Pay recommendations (e.g., populating the Live Activity/Lock Screen widget before you open the App).
You can disable location access at any time in your device's Settings. Quick Pay will not function correctly without location access, but the rest of the App remains usable.
We do not sell or share your location data with third parties for advertising purposes.
7. Children's Privacy
Gild is not directed to, and does not knowingly collect personal information from, children under 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your account and data.
- Withdraw consent for location or notification permissions (via device settings).
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@gildwallet.com.
9. California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and to request its deletion. We do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date above and, where appropriate, through an in-app notice.
